Practical guide

How to use bingo in the classroom

Give each learner or pair a different card. Explain the winning pattern, such as one full row, before calling.

How to use it

Give each learner or pair a different card. Explain the winning pattern, such as one full row, before calling. Shuffle the caller list and read a word, definition or calculation. Learners mark one matching cell. When someone claims bingo, check every marked entry against the called list.

Ask for a meaning or worked calculation. Play another round with a new pattern rather than rewarding speed alone.

Adapt the activity

For an easier task, use fewer familiar items, a smaller grid and a visible word list. For more challenge, use definitions, add diagonal directions or ask learners to explain each answer. Test one sheet before making copies.
